With almost 24 years of experience, Tennia Williams has served in several settings where she has worked with diverse populations (mental health, adult & juvenile corrections, civilly committed adults, patients forensically committed for competency restoration, as well as students in higher education). In addition, she has served many families, agency professionals, and community stakeholders; developed and implemented new evidence based practices for multiple agencies; monitored implementation of programming; and conducted staff development and training throughout her career. Although Tennia has recently served in an administrative capacities, her proficiency in direct care service to vulnerable populations has been demonstrated through thorough assessment; formulation and implementation of effective treatment plans; provision of individual, group, and family counseling; crisis management services to address suicidal and homicidal behaviors; as well as resource identification and referrals to community agencies.
Tennia has enjoyed close working relationships with multiple Schools of Social Work as she has provided task and LCSW supervision for numerous student interns. She is also an Adjunct Instructor in the LSU School of Social Work and currently has the Board Approved Clinical Supervisor designation that allows her to provide clinical supervision for social work clinicians working towards LCSW licensure.
Tennia’s commitment to community plays an integral part in her life. Providing leadership through mentoring in with youth in the community has allowed her to be an influence in the growth, personal development, and maturation of the young adults. Tennia also delivers mental health training/development for local student-athletes and coaches in the Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Tennia received her Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations in May 1998 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and her Master of Social Work at Louisiana State University in 2000. Family is very important to Tennia and she loves spending time with her husband of 23 years and her son, most often at baseball games and other family- oriented activities.
