James Owens is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He earned his Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama and his undergraduate degree from the University of Louisiana-Monroe. James has dedicated his entire nursing career to psychiatry, initially discovering his passion for mental health while working as a child and adolescent hospital marketer.
With extensive experience in inpatient forensic psychiatry and inpatient child and adolescent hospitals, James eventually found his calling in substance abuse treatment. This diverse background has given him a comprehensive understanding of psychiatric and substance abuse symptoms and treatments.
James is enthusiastic about working for PTI/New Start-IOP because he believes telehealth reduces stigma and increases accessibility, leading to better patient outcomes. A native of Baton Rouge, James lives with his loving wife and four young children. He enjoys watching his children grow and learn valuable life lessons, and despite the challenges of having four kids under five, the family loves to travel whenever possible.
