Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Under the general supervision of the Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the quality and completeness of assigned medical services at an assigned facility. The Nurse Practitioner must be knowledgeable in systems improvement and have the ability to facilitate a positive, forward-thinking culture at PTI. The Nurse Practitioner practices under a supervising physician as per Louisiana state law, as determined and set forth by PTI.
Under the general supervision of the Medical Director and in accordance with standardized procedures, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing mental healthcare to patients through regular health assessments and the management of acute and chronic stable conditions. The Nurse Practitioner obtains a health history and performs assessments, identifies problems, and formulates plans that include treatment, health education and counseling. The Nurse Practitioner collaborates with other health care professionals in assessing and managing health care problems and maintaining continuity of care. The Nurse Practitioner is an inherent leader within the organization and consistently makes a positive contribution to PTI.
JOB LEVELS I – III
Job level classifications I-III indicate the Nurse Practitioners relative rank, functions, and responsibilities. Each respective level attained reflects the consistent performance, qualifications, responsibilities for work completed, competencies, and leadership assignments, as well as compensation ranges and some benefits.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Nurse Practitioner will be paid in accordance with the compensation ranges set forth by their assigned job level (I-III).
Nurse Practitioner is eligible to receive any bonus(es) paid at the discretion of PTI.
Nurse Practitioner is eligible for all benefits provided by PTI to Full-Time, Exempt employees, as detailed in the Employee Handbook. Some benefits, including PTO, participation in PPP, and others, are made available and/or provided at different levels upon attaining higher Job Levels.
As an employee of PTI, the Nurse Practitioner is eligible for Student Loan Repayment through HRSA.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides quality and meaningful mental healthcare to patients, including medical diagnosis, histories, exams, lab tests, prescriptions, therapeutic plans, and referrals consistent with the health needs of the patient and current guidelines and protocols.
- Assesses pertinent data on each patient, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings, and initiates appropriate action to facilitate the ongoing implementation of the therapeutic plan.
- Perform accurate and timely documentation of all care provided, goals, updates to the treatment plan, and all related interaction with patient in the Electronic Health Records (EHR) System within 24 hours of the visit.
- Maintain a cordial, accommodating, and welcoming presence with patients at all times.
- Document patient chart entries thoroughly and accurately and timely; following PTI policies, and Medicaid and Medicare guidelines.
- Ensure that health education and follow up instructions are provided with each patient encounter when applicable.
- Provides for the comfort, safety, privacy, and confidentiality of patients.
- Provide patients information concerning their evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.
- Engage patients in participation and decisions involving their healthcare.
- Consult supervising physician or colleagues when needed for complicated or case is outside the standards of care or scope of practice.
- Actively lead, participate, and engage in quality improvement for PTI efficiencies and improving patient quality of care.
- Advise the Medical Director of any situations that may adversely impact the efficiency of the medical department or have negative impact on PTI.
- Timely coordination of care among internal and external ancillary providers and hospitals to provide high quality care between departments and facilities.
- Function within an interdisciplinary team and participate in interdisciplinary activities.
- Participate in quality assurance, training, and educational activities, including regularly scheduled meetings, clinical audits and peer review.
- Knowledge of social, cultural and economic factors as they relate to mental health and effective treatment of related diseases.
- Knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques.
- Knowledge of public health and community resources.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all PTI staff, administration, peers, and other work related outside agencies.
- Ability to provide information and guidance in regards to PTI personnel and departmental policies.
- Initiates and provides emergency care services as appropriate in life-threatening situations.
- Responsible for ensuring that all duties, responsibilities and operations are performed with the utmost regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved, including themselves.
- At all times helps lead PTI’s culture and demonstrates cooperative behavior with supervisors, subordinates, colleagues, clients and the community.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
SCOPE OF WORK
- Provide specialized and individualized patient care as scheduled, and complete accurate documentation within 24 hours of visit into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- To work as medical team assisting other providers in completing their responsibilities as necessary, e.g., seeing patients, processing refills, completing documentation requirements, and provider inbox.
- Effectively manage a patient group up to the goals set by the organization.
- Display the highest level of professionalism, integrity and a strong work ethic, serving as a model for all clinic staff.
- Maintain requirements of licensure, DEA certification and board certification if hired as board certified. Fulfill and maintain requirements for credentialing, privileges internally and externally with payers and regulatory bodies.
- Provide comprehensive, high quality medical services to all patients without bias, regardless of age, sex, gender identification, income, national origin or language.
- Consider individuals’ cultural, psychological, social and environmental factors in creating treatment/care plans.
- Actively participate in meetings as assigned by direct supervisor.
- Participate in trainings of other medical personnel as requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFIICATIONS
- Current RN License, PMHNP certificate and furnishing number.
- Current CPR certification, ACLS, PALS certification required.
- Current DEA license.
- Excellent communication and written skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to work well under pressure analyze and evaluate individual patient’s needs, reach sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
- Must be detail oriented and be able to multi-task effectively.
- Demonstrate experience in the delivery of effective mental healthcare services.
- Must be sensitive to the diverse patient population.
- Demonstrate clear knowledge of PTI’s structure, standards, procedures and protocols.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
All minimum qualifications, and/or:
- Three (3) years of experience working within a mental healthcare clinic is highly desirable.
- Established leadership skills demonstrated by documented leadership positions of increasing responsibility.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
